Next up on my Canadian travels is New Brunswick. I have been in New Brunswick twice. The first time was in 1995 while on a road trip through the Maritimes with a friend. We passed through on the way back from Prince Edward Island back to Nova Scotia. In May 2008 I set my heart on getting all the Maritime capitals "walked in" so Fredericton was on my "to do" list as well as the Hopewell Rocks near Moncton.
Sadly somehow my photos of Fredericton have disappeared. Not on the hard drive of my computer and I can't find the correct memory card. (I never delete pictures off my memory cards - to my mind they are a good back.up.um..when you can find the right one) Oh well. Anyway, trust me I've been there.
So this will focus on the Hopewell Rocks and my stay in that area.
I took the bus from PEI over the Confederation Bridge to Moncton where I stayed the night and had dinner with some walking friends. The next morning I picked up my rental car and headed off to see the Hopewell Rocks on the Bay of Fundy. They are also referred to as The Flowerpots and are one of the marine wonders of the world. They stand 40 to 70 feet tall and were caused by tidal erosion. I must say I was very impressed and actually went back twice - once when the tide was out. A definite must see if you are in New Brunswick!
My home for 2 nights - loved this place!
Goose giving my rental car the once over - yep, Mazda 3's are da bomb!
I highly recommend staying here - I checked and it is still open for business. Just a half hour drive or so from the Hopewell Rocks. (if my memory serves me correctly - which it's known not to do all the time)
A charming room...I quickly took a picture before I invaded the space. It didn't look this neat once I'd had my way with it.
After a great breakfast (can't remember what I had but I know it was great...) I hopped back in the car and headed off to do some short hikes.
The white wooden churches were a beautiful contrast to the greenery around. Loved them!
Hopewell Rocks at low tide - can you see me?
The next morning I bade farewell to the animals across the road and then drove back to Moncton to return the car and carry on to Fredericton on the bus.
Someday I hope to return to New Brunswick and visit Saint John, Miramichi and more of the amazing Bay of Fundy.
