Yes that's a tongue twister of a name isn't it. Pronounced Lewbwanna...I think!
I finally figured out how to work the stove to boil up water for tea. It's a bit chilly in Eva's flat but then again I haven't really felt warm for a week! So I am sitting at her kitchen table which is much easier to type blog posts on than in bed...which I have been known to do on more than one occasion..
I arrived this morning on Easy Jet - wow I am impressed. I will definitely fly with them again. I even told the flight attendants how impressed I was when I was leaving the aircraft We left early and arrived early and check in was painless and quick. On the shuttle into town I was having a terrible time texting Eva and a young English couple were helping me out. They couldn't get the number combination to work either so they dialed it up for me...what can I say...I have an iphone and I still don't know how to use it properly I guess...anyway I finally connected with her and she left work to meet me at the flat. I ended up taking a taxi here.
My room is tiny but will do the trick and it's nice to stay in a local home.
I then wandered over to Ljubljana's Old Town which is absolute perfection.
The rose coloured Franciscan church is the focal point of the square. The lady in the foreground was playing The Blue Danube when I arrived...beautiful!
One of four dragons on the Dragon bridge which was built in 1901. Local legend says the dragons' tails wriggle when a virgin walks over the bridge!! (guess they don't wriggle too much then!)
I will know more about these places tomorrow when I take a free walking tour at 11 a.m. I may visit the castle which looms over the town (as all good castles do). I do plan to take a couple of day trips as well so will make arrangements for those tomorrow. I want to see as much of this country as I can as this will likely be my only trip here.
I had a late lunch as all of a sudden I was famished about 2 p.m. and I realized I hadn't eaten since 4:30 a.m. British time...
Cheese dumplings with mushrooms and cream sauce. It is normally a side dish but was a featured lunch special. It is actually made the way strudel is made but boiled instead of baked...well that is what the server told me. It was good but once was enough. I will try something different tomorrow.
On the way back I stopped at a supermarket to pick up yogurt and bananas for my breakfast in the morning - and a salad to counter balance all the carbs and bad stuff. :)
Coffee is a passion here in Ljubljana so of course I had to go to a coffee shop - and one that takes its coffee seriously. I enjoyed a cappucino while catching up with my travel diary. Yay! I think I will make that a daily "thing" while I am here.
It will be an early night tonight as another day of adventure awaits - stay tuned!!
