16 things I love about St Ives

I am feeling lazy so this is going to be a photo essay of some of my favourite things about the darling little town of St Ives in Cornwall.  St Ives' main industry but that has been on a steady decline and now tourism is probably its biggest resource.  It is blessed with four beaches.   This was my third visit in 32 years and it was long overdue. St Ives is out of the way which adds to its charm - it is a five and a half hour train ride from London but let me tell you the train ride is spectacular.  At St Erth you change to a small two carriage train that runs along the ocean.  Outstanding!  I can still hear the gulls screeching, feel the wind blowing on my face on Porthmoer Beach and smell that salty air....

So here we go,,,,I can just going to randomly select some of the things I love about this charmer of a town...

The delightful harbour

The pier..taken in the wonderful late afternoon light

My bed and breakfast which was steps from the harbour

Cute little cottages like this - I just want to pick it up and hug it

Wild Atlantic waves seen from the fabulous walk on The Island

Wild Porthmoer beach...Atlantic side - lots of surfers here

Okay even I (who wants to be cremated and ashes scattered to the wind) wouldn't mind being buried here!

This is the view from the railway station...

The fab fish and chips at The Balancing Eel

Fab little alley ways like this...

The fisherman's dog who swims around in the harbour chasing seals and has been known to jump into the open sea if she sees something she wants to investigate - don't think she will live to be an old dog!

Cornish clotted cream ice cream!

Seagulls - yes they are noisy, greedy, dirty pests but I like their attitude!

Warm Cornish pasties from the St Ives bakery - and yes the gulls were circling...

The cool mural on the side of the St Ives Launderette
Porthgwidden beach just steps from my B and B
